No, we didn’t catch any like that fish yesterday or today… we only wish we had…

Monday was a killer… the winds were supposed to be about 6 to 8… they seemed to me like they were 15 to 20 mph.  We launched at 7 a.m, but gave it up at 8:30 a.m.  We didn’t catch anything.  The  winds were just too much.

Today, it was calmer.  The winds were supposed to be 4 mph from the NE according to the Internet hour by hour… but, at 7 a.m. they were about 10 and from the NW.   They did calm down around 10 am. and the lake had a small ripple on it.  Easy fishing. We did catch 6 fish today…  2 of them were nice keepers, but the others were small.  We fished until 12:30.

The water temperature both days was around 78 to 80 degrees.

We fished the lower end of the lake and mid lake and caught fish in both places.  The water toward the lower end is clearer and up mid lake, it is stained.  There were no schooling fish that we could find.    When the sun got up higher around 10 am we were able to see fish on humps in the lower part of the lake, some were bass, some were buffalo or carp.  All the bass we caught were on T-rigs.

The ramp at Lofers Bend continues to be “functional” though I think it has risks with the drop off.  We will see as time goes by.   The current lake level is 517.20 or a little over 15 feet 9 1/2 inches low.  Even fishing every day, you can see the water level dropping on various pieces of structure.  More and more gets exposed each day.  The good news is that a person can mark some great structure for when the water comes back up.  We noted today that the rope was back across the top of the ramp at Harbor Master Marina.   A guy on the http://www.texasfishingforum.com/ advised that the ramp closes when the wind is out of the North, but the winds did not seem to be an issue today.  So who knows.  I also understand that Juniper Cove is still open, as is the Red Bluff ramp in Steele Creek Park.

There were 8 rigs on the ramp at Lofers Bend today, only one yesterday.  So some folks took advantage of the good weather and the ramp while it is still open.

I say, smoke ’em if you got ’em.  The lake access is definitely narrowing.  Weather is going to be good tomorrow.  Maybe they will turn on and bite, or you can find them where we haven’t.
